Founder’s Message

With over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry, I understand firsthand what it feels like to have the passion and skill for braiding but not always know where to begin professionally. Many talented braiders start their journey with creativity and determination but without clear guidance on how to turn that talent into a structured career.

For years, braiders have often been viewed as “just braiders,” despite the skill, cultural significance, and dedication that the craft truly requires. Through our own experience, we recognized the need to create a pathway that empowers braiders with education, professional standards, and opportunity.

That vision is what led me to establish Eye of Rah Beauty Academy™. This academy was created to provide aspiring braiders and natural hair professionals with the knowledge and foundation needed to operate safely, responsibly, and confidently within the beauty industry.

While I respect the important work of licensed cosmetologists and barbers, we also believe that braiders deserve access to education and resources that help them grow, build businesses, and take pride in their profession.

Most importantly, I believe that community service, mentorship, and unity are what truly strengthen our industry. When we share knowledge and uplift one another, we create opportunities not only for ourselves but for future generations of beauty professionals.

How to Become a Registered Hair Braider in Tennessee

If you plan to offer professional braiding services in Tennessee, it is important to understand the state’s requirements. The process is straightforward when you follow the correct steps. The registration process is regulated by the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners under the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance.

Step 1: Complete the Required Health & Sanitation Training

Individuals seeking to register as a Hair Braider must complete 16 hours of Health and Sanitation education from an approved training provider.

At Eye of Rah Beauty Academy™ , this requirement is fulfilled through our Tennessee Braider Professional Track™, which provides the essential health, safety, and sanitation knowledge required for professional practice.

Step 2: Receive Documentation of Course Completion

After successfully completing the required training, students receive documentation confirming completion of the 16-hour Health & Sanitation requirement.

Step 3: Submit Your Registration Application

Applicants must submit their registration application and applicable fee directly to the Tennessee Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners for review.

Step 4: Begin Your Professional Braiding Career

Once your registration is processed, you may legally provide braiding services in Tennessee while following all applicable sanitation and safety regulations.
